Gods of Ink Tattoo Convention 2023

2023 was the first edition of a tattoo convention that is shaping up to be the One to look out for in the years to come on a worldwide scale, Gods of Ink. Frankfurt the location, Miki Vialetto the organiser. Miki has been organising the best tattoo conventions in Europe for over 25 years. After overseeing successful conventions in the likes of Milan and London, he is now focusing on Frankfurt. The list of tattoo artists at this event was incredible. From old timers to up and coming tattooers, every style was covered. We had our very own Claudia De Sabe and Teide, working and representing one of the few london based tattoo shops invited to attend.

Over the course of an amazing 3 days, Claudia and Teide sold artwork and prints, and tattooed until late everyday! The public were so enthusiastic and they couldn't have hoped for a better outcome. Claudia tattooed some ribs, a half-sleeve and some one-shot tattoos on travelling customers who came from all over Europe for this truly unforgettable event.

The poster for this first edition was designed by the one and only The Grime, a genuine living legend and style-bender from the West coast, who unfortunately couldn't attend the event. Nonetheless, it was great meeting and seeing old friends, such as Doryu-San, Rudy Fritch, Stizzo, Alex holyfox, Nikole Lowe, KANAE, Brian kaneko, Rico and Shion of Daruma Goya, Filoluino, Hanumantra, Horiken, Horihiro, Todd Noble, Joao Bosco and Alexander Grimm.

The quality of tattooing at this event was absolutely incredible. The team are looking forward to next year’s edition!

Artwork, Prints, and Live Tattooing

Over the three-day event, Claudia and Teide sold artwork and prints while tattooing tirelessly. Their schedules were fully booked, and they welcomed clients who travelled across Europe. Many attendees opted for one-shot tattoos, creating memorable pieces in a single session. Claudia’s work on ribs and half-sleeves drew particular attention for its precision and creativity. Meanwhile, Teide’s approach showcased bold lines and expert shading. The combination of live tattooing and artwork sales created a dynamic experience for both artists and attendees.

Engaging with the Public

One of the highlights of Gods of Ink was the public interaction. Visitors were not merely spectators; they actively engaged with artists. Questions about techniques, tools, and inspirations were frequent, making conversations lively and educational. Moreover, fans expressed appreciation for the skill and dedication of tattoo professionals. Consequently, the convention fostered a deeper understanding of tattoo culture. This engagement made the event feel more intimate despite its large scale.

Learning and Inspiration

The convention was not only about showcasing talent but also about learning. Many artists used the event as an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiment with new styles. Workshops and live demonstrations offered insights into modern tattooing techniques. For example, observing different shading methods and colour applications provided inspiration for our own work. Attendees left with fresh ideas and a renewed passion for tattooing, making the event valuable for both professionals and enthusiasts.

A Gathering of Legends

Gods of Ink attracted some of the most respected names in tattooing. While not every artist could attend, their influence was felt throughout the convention. Stories and references to legendary work created a sense of history and continuity within the tattoo community. Meeting peers and discussing trends allowed us to appreciate the evolution of tattoo artistry. For newcomers, it was a rare chance to learn from masters of the craft.

Frankfurt as the Perfect Venue

Frankfurt provided an excellent backdrop for the convention. The city’s central location in Europe made it accessible for international visitors. Moreover, the venue offered ample space, lighting, and facilities for artists and attendees. Organisers ensured that logistics ran smoothly, from registration to booth setup. This efficiency allowed everyone to focus on art rather than practical issues. Frankfurt’s infrastructure and cultural scene made it an ideal host for an event of this scale.

Anticipating Future Editions

The success of the first Gods of Ink convention sets high expectations for the future. Artists and attendees alike are already looking forward to next year’s edition. Based on this inaugural event, we anticipate more diverse line-ups and even greater international participation. The organisers plan to expand workshops, feature innovative tattooing techniques, and continue celebrating both traditional and contemporary styles. Consequently, Gods of Ink is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated tattoo conventions globally.
